The first and most significant
development of the new century was the publication of the first English daily
newspaper, the Daily Courant, which began on 11 March 1702. The 18th
century was a period of innovation and evolution for newspapers.

Why do you think there was a small circulation of readers at this time?
Not many people in this time went to
school, as you would have had to come from a wealthy background. Therefore, not
many people were educated enough to read the newspapers or afford them.

The beginning of the 19th
century there wasn’t much technology apart from radio and tvs . This means if
people wanted to know the recent news they would have to buy the newspapers.
