I think my answers above would be correct to the questions because "The Independent" have loads of different stories involving politics, Gordon Brown, Royal family, GCSEs and many more.
"Originally and Broadsheets newspaper, the newspaper has been published in a tabloid or "Compact"".
The Independent has a wide readership in which has gradually dropped since 2010, totalling from 635,000 in 2010 to 309,000 in 2014. Most of the readership is the male population. In which is normally totalling roughly 60% since 2010. (information from media.info)
The Guardian is a broadsheet, in which means there is more detail to righting and has no adverts on the front page. The articles are longer and pays more attention to every little detail. The colour scheme is very basic and not extremely eye catching.
However, whereas Daily Mirror is a tabloid. It is more eye catching, all about pictures and no articles on the front cover. Their headlines are very dramatic and been hyped.
The differnce is that on seems more formal than the other. The Guardian has an article on the front cover and not as many pictures, therefore it is for those who enjoy reading the newspapers. Whereas, Daily Mirror is mostly pictures which means there is very little text to it. The language is informal which will appeal to the lower class group.
Ownership and Control
Oligopoly:
- A state of limited competition, in which a market is shared by a small number of producers or sellers.
Conglomerate:
A corporation that is made up of a number of different, seemingly unrelated businesses. In a conglomerate, one company owns a controlling stake in a number of smaller companies, which conduct business separately. Each of a conglomerate's subsidiary businesses runs independently of the other business divisions, but the subsidiaries' management reports to senior management at the parent company.
Examples of Conglomerate:
Disney: Disney has bought out other different companies such as, Pixar Animation Studios, Industrial Light & Magic, Skywalker Sound, Lucasfilm Animation and many others.
Viacom: Viacom own many different Tv Networks such as, MTV, all the Nickelodeon stations, BET, Comedy Central Records and many others.
